Curtis (John Cho) is selected to test a digital assistant home device called AIA. However, AIA takes matters into her own hands on how to best support her family. Caryn James of The Hollywood Reporter offers the following, "Chris Weitz (most famously ABOUT A BOY and most recently OPERATION FINALE) works hard to make Afraid a smarter-than-average horror movie, but the effort is conspicuous, and in the end the film is bland and obvious. And if horror can’t make us feel frightened in a way we couldn’t imagine ourselves, why bother?"

ALIEN: ROMULUS 14A | 2h 2 min | Metascore  64

While scavenging a derelict space station, a group of young space colonists encourter a terrifying life form. Barry Hertz of The Globe and Mail (Toronto) comments that director Fede "Álvarez eventually gets there, with the third act of Romulus impressively nauseating. But otherwise, the filmmaker isn’t developing this cinematic universe so much as he is stunting its growth".

BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE 14A | 2h 24min | Metascore 62

Tim Burton returns Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) back to the screen as Lydia (Winona Ryder)'s life is turned upside down when her daugther (Jenna Ortega) opens the portal to the Afterlife. Screen Daily's Jonathan Romney notes that"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice may not be that fresh or substantial – it’s basically comfort food for long-term Burton fans – but it’ll be hard for viewers to repress a pleased smile, or graveyard rictus".

BLINK TWICE 14A | 1h 42min | Metascore  66

Cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) questions her reality when tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation. Empire's Sophie Butcher praises the film, "A seriously effective, incisive thriller which establishes Zoë Kravitz as a bold directorial talent, and shows you a side of Channing Tatum that you’ve never seen before."

CRITIC, THE 14A | 1h 41min | Metascore  55

A powerful London theatre critic (Ian McKellen) finds himself entangled in a murder story. Benjamin Lee of The Guardian praises Mckellen, "who relishes another devious character to sink his teeth into, devouring every scene, a deliciously caustic turn that will provide him with nothing but the finest notices."

DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE 14A | 2h 10min | Metascore  56

Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is offered a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but the Time Variance Authority, but opts instead to enlist a Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) variant to save his universe from extinction. Lots of jokes and visual nods to entertain. Slashfilm's Chris Evangelista comments "There's plenty of room for silly fluff to momentarily distract us from the nightmares of the real world. But is it really so much to ask for just a little bit more? Must we continually be served flavorless gruel and pretend it's nourishing?"

DESPICABLE ME 4 G | 1h 35min | Metascore  52

Gru faces a new nemesis and the family is forced to go on the run, while welcoming a new member to the family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad. Variety's Peter Debruge comments that, "At times, it feels less like a feature than a collection of Looney Tunes-y shorts piled one on top of another."

FRONT ROOM, THE 14A | 1h 26min | Metascore  50

A couple with a child on the way must take in an ailing, estrange stepmother. Justin Lowe of The Hollywood Reporter says, "THE FRONT ROOM perhaps leans more toward the repulsive than the highbrow, potentially carving out its own distinct genre niche."

IT ENDS WITH US PG | 2h 11min | Metascore  53

Based on the bestselling novel, this drama navigates the complexities of love and emotional abuse. With a heartfelt performance by its lead actress (Blake Lively) Marya E. Gates of RogerEbert.com states that "Lively does her best to add emotional layers to Lily so we see her internal growth, but this process is often hampered by the film around her."

REAGAN PG | 2h 15min | Metascore  22

The life of Ronald Reagan, from childhood to oval office.

Washington Post's Ty Burr jeers, "For a movie about the Great Communicator, REAGAN communicates surprisingly little."

SING SING R | 1h 47 min | Metascore 84

Colman Domingo plays Divine G, while incarcerated for a crime he didn't commit, he finds purpose by acting in a theatre group. Jordan Raup of The Film Stage praises it for "beautifully showing the importance of healing through art, SING SING skirts the treacly traps of a feel-good crowd-pleaser by providing a detailed, authentic roadmap for restoring a life burdened by trauma."

SPEAK NO EVIL 14A | 1h 50 min | Metascore  63

A family is invited to spend an idyllic weekend at a country house only to find themselves in a psychological nightmare. David Jenkins of metacritic offers that "Watkins' slick direction and McAvoy's frankly terrifying performance make this an effictive, worthy if not essential entry into the "If you go out to the woods today..." creepy canon."

TWISTERS PG | 2h 2 min | Metascore  65

Kate Carter (Daisy Edger-Jones) is a former tornado-chaser and meteorlogist, is persuaded to return to Oklahoma to work with a new team. Lots of throwbacks to the original, including visual style, so fans of the original will have plenty to enjoy (with the exception of antipated cameos. Nicholas Barber of the BBC notes that "Twisters isn't bad, but a braver film might have admitted that addressing the causes of extreme weather might be more useful than throwing nappies at it."
